Five new M.2 modules based on NXPs wireless chipsets

2021-10-12

Malmö, Sweden, 12 October 2021 – Embedded Artists extends its range of Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® products in the M.2 family with an additional 5 modules. All these are equipped with modules from Murata containing chipset from NXP®.

Embedded Artists M.2 family now consists of 12 modules with Wi-Fi 4, Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 support. Most of the modules also support Bluetooth.

The M.2 modules enables our customers to evaluate and choose the solution that has the best tradeoff between performance, power consumption, temperature range, and price for the product that is developed.

For quantities of up to a few thousand units per year it is profitable to directly integrate M.2 modules in the end-product. This also gives the flexibility to change solution during the products life-time or to have different solutions for different geographical regions.
The M.2 modules can also be used to evaluate which Murata Wi-Fi / Bluetooth module to directly integrate in the end-product, that is, when going with a solder down solution.

Key features for the new M.2 modules are presented below

1ZM M.2 – NXP 88W8987

  • Wi-Fi 5, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
  • Bluetooth 5.1 BR/EDR/LE

When Murata has a reference certified antenna this antenna is also included with the M.2 module to simplify evaluation.

Customers can easily and quickly start to evaluate M.2 modules together with one of Embedded Artists i.MX based Developer’s Kits since these have a M.2 connector.

There are kits using application processors in the i.MX6, i.MX7 and i.MX8 families, but also kits using microcontrollers in the i.MX RT family.

Embedded Artists provides extensive documentation in the form of getting-started guides as well as software drivers. This makes it easy for a developer to evaluate and integrate a M.2 module from Embedded Artists.
